About the exhibition in Roeselare

The exhibition features the work of Jacqueline Dehond and Koenraad Uyttendaele, the artist duo Jacqy duVal.

Inspired by their knowledge of and passion for art history, they have been working together on abstract paintings since 2009. Jacqy duVal's artistic practice focuses on technique and colour.

Their approach is indebted to both Western and Eastern abstraction, but resolutely contemporary in method and conception. They emphasise geometry and optical illusion, elements used since antiquity to create a sacred, contemplative atmosphere.

Using a pictorial vocabulary of repetitive patterns, geometric shapes and interactive colour areas, they create a field of energy, a kind of invisible vibration, a quiet music to which the viewer can connect consciously and subconsciously. Inspiring our imagination, allowing us to travel to other dimensions of the mind is therefore their desire.

The painting technique used where pigment is bound onto canvas with hide glue, already used by Breughel and Dürer, results in vivid and deep colours. It is to bring to light the beauty of matter that Jacqy DuVal chooses to make her paints herself and rely on ancient techniques and processes.
